What information do we collect?

We collect personal data to operate our business effectively and provide you with the best experience on our website. Some of this data is provided directly from you, for example when you make a purchase, register an account, sign up to receive our email newsletters, engage with us on social media or enter into a competition. The type of personal information collected might include your name, address or email address.

We use Shopify Payments as our secure payment provider.  Your credit card information is entered directly on their secure server and we do not record or hold these details.

Data is also collected when you give us permission to obtain it from other businesses. For example, if you enter a joint competition we are running with another company, they may provide a list of the entrants who opted to receive our email newsletters as part of their entry. This information from third parties does depend on their privacy policies, so it is advisable to check what they are. We will only run joint promotions with trustworthy companies where it is clear how the data will be shared with us.

Cookies

Some of the data is gathered by recording how you use our website, for example by using cookies. This might include your IP address and information about what pages you visited and when. They do not identify you as an individual.

Cookies are very small text files that are stored on your computer when you visit some websites. We use them to help identify your computer so we can tailor your user experience, track shopping basket contents and remember where you are in the order process.

You can disable any cookies already stored on your computer, but these may stop our website from functioning properly.

We will:

  • Remember what is in your shopping basket
  • Remember where you are in the order process
  • Remember that you are logged in and that your session is secure.  You need to be logged in to complete an order.
  • Track the pages you visit, record what type of device and operating system you are using in order to help us improve the functionality of the website and your experience
  • Allow you to share pages with social networks such as Facebook (If available)

How do we use this information?

We may use this information to process your orders and manage your account.

We may need to refer to this information to respond to future queries, refunds or complaints, or make reordering easier.

We may need to pass on your address details to a third party delivery company.

We will monitor your browsing activity to quickly identify or resolve any problems and protect our websites.

With your consent we may use your personal information to keep you informed by email (via Mailchimp – please see their Privacy Policy here), web, post, text (in the case of deliveries) and telephone about relevant products and special offers, discounts or promotions and competitions etc.

We may use it to notify you of any changes to our products or services.

We may pass your information to our third party service providers, agents subcontractors and other associated organisations for the purposes of completing tasks and providing services to you on our behalf (for example to send you emails or catalogues or to deliver the products you have ordered from us). However, we disclose only the personal information that is necessary to deliver the service and we have a contract in place that requires any third party to keep your information secure and not to use it for their own direct marketing purposes. We will not share your information to third parties for them to use for their own direct marketing purposes, unless you have requested us to do so, or we are required to do so by law, for example, by a court order or for the purposes of prevention of fraud or other crime.

Your choice

You can choose whether or not you wish to receive information from us. You can change your marketing preferences at any time by logging into your account on the website or contacting us by email – sales@megrivers.co.uk

You have the right to request a copy of the information we hold about you free of charge. We reserve the right to charge an administration fee for further copies of the same information or if the request is excessive. Please complete this form

You also have the right to ask us to delete all information we hold on you.
Our system automates this if you have an account

When you give us personal information, we take steps to ensure that it’s treated securely. Any sensitive information (such as credit or debit card details) is encrypted and protected with 128 Bit encryption software on SSL. When you are on a secure page, a lock icon will appear on the bottom of web browsers such as Microsoft Internet Explorer or in the address bar on Google Chrome. This encryption makes it virtually impossible for unauthorised parties to read any information that you send us. The encryption technique we use is the highest standard available for e-commerce.

All of this helps us understand and engage with our customers better, but we ONLY share your details with third parties to help us provide a better service to you, for example by giving your address to a courier so they can deliver your order. All personal information is kept on a secure server. We will never rent or sell your information to third parties or share it for marketing purposes.
